What’s still to come…

As we round the corner on the last days in our current studio space, we want to see your friendly faces a few more times. One of the most important pieces of being a business owner for me, was the ability to give back to the community so it only seems fitting that our last official camps do just that. Whether it be to give a student who couldn’t otherwise participate an affordable way to do so or by teaching the students involved the power of art in making statement and changing lives. So find some time to join in next week for our:

Pay What You Can: Art For Good Camps

A week full of up-cycled crafts for a good cause! We’ll spend some time learning about local non-profits doing good work in the twin cities and decide on who we want to make a donation to, create up-cycled arts and crafts and put them up for sale at Community Grounds in a Silent Auction on Friday, August 18th-Saturday August 19th with 100% of the sales of the pieces going to the organizations that the children have decided to support! We have 3 options for this camp a 2 day all ages preschool friendly care-giver/child workshop (Mon-Tue 9:30-12) and 2 day elementary drop off session (Wed-Thu 9-12) and a 4 day afternoon (Mon-Thu 1-4pm) middle level program.

Pay What You Can: Sign up via the web link (https://createdtogrow.com/events/week/2017-08-13/), but the ticket prices for these camps are truly suggested donations to cover supplies and overhead, if your child would love this, but the cost of the ticket is too much select pay in studio and name your own price in the notes. I’ll honor that price as you pay on arrival.

Silent Auction and Sale: On August 18th-19th, all of the work created by these incredible kids will be up for sale or auction at Community Grounds Coffee Shop! The sale will open at 3pm on August 18th and Close at 2pm on August 19th. There will be some simple purchase and walk away with them items along with a few larger pieces for silent auction that you will have to try your hand at bidding for! All proceeds from the art sale will got to a local non-profit that the students select during the camps!

Open Studio Opportunities:

Some of the best times in the studio come when you get to drop in when you are ready and work at your own pace in your own creative way. We will continue to hold open studios on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:30 through Sept 12th and Saturdays: August 26th 10am-2m, September 9th 10am-12pm and Sept 16th 10am-2pm.

Remaining Adult Offerings:

We all know the studio isn’t just for the kids! Drop in for one of our remaining adult nights to get a little grown up crafting in! We’ve got some fun Thursdays to finish off our time in the studio for our adult friends:

August 17th, 7:30-10pm: Macrame Plant Holders and a macrame warm-up ($25)

August 24th, 7:30-9:30: Simple Jewels and Rustic Vases ($25)

What is Art for Good Camp?

Art For Good is our summer camp that shares with kids and families how art can make an impact, from choosing recycled and upcycled materials to creating our art to use the profits from art sales to support local non-profits. We will spend the week creating upcycled art that we will put up for sale at Community Grounds Coffee Shop on August 18-19th. 100% of the sales will be donated to a local non-profit that the students choose during the course of the camp week. This camp is intended to be a community give back so the price to participate is fully negotiable. There are suggested prices listed above, but any child that wants to join in can join in for whatever amount their family can afford!

See You in the Studio,

Final Summer Sale and Big Changes to come!

End of Summer Daycamp sale and bonus Farmers Market code

Our community collaboration with the NE Farmers Market resulted in this beautiful sandwich board painted by the kids of the market!

Let’s fill our final weeks of camp! All camps are now reduced by $10-25 and we are ready to celebrate this beautiful summer with lots of creative kids! Sale prices still not quite low enough? Head on over to the Northeast Farmers Market Facebook page, give them a like and find a code for an extra 10% off your cart total!

and now for the BIG CHANGES!

Many of you have heard that there are changes in the works for our next chapter. I am posting today to share our bittersweet news. Created to Grow is giving up our physical space in exchange for a more mobile version of our current model. I will without a doubt shed tears as we walk out of our St. Anthony Studio at the end of September, because it has housed many memories, great ideas, big creativity, laughter and tears that will stay with me for a lifetime. This little business has created an extended family for mine and has afforded me the ability to give back to my community in a way I never could as in individual. I’m forever grateful for everyone who has supported each step along the way and especially, for each child I have seen grow and become in our creative space.

We are at a crossroads and I was at a point where a decision had to be made. The business is ok with only me but the overhead too costly to hire. My leave of absence from teaching is up and I needed to decide whether or not I was returning to the classroom. I am. My children are heading to Kindergarten and it has become very clear over my years as a business owner that my true career is in the public school classroom. That said I’m also not ready to see Created to Grow, the community that it created and the creativity it nurtured to disappear. While I head back to teaching, we will be finding new spaces to offer our programs and will continue to be available for offsite community collaborations like those we’ve done at the Farmers Market, public libraries, daycares and schools. We will have very limited hours in September and I will be taking all of October off from Created to Grow as I settle back into my classroom. In November, we will begin our next chapter by offering a selection of our classes at Community Grounds Coffee Shop in Columbia Heights! This incredible community space has been a great source of support as we held our after school and homeschool gallery shows and we look forward to expanding our partnership.
For those wondering about the non-profit, I am continuing work on heading towards a non-profit status so our Created to Grow work can reach more children and we hope to have that in place before we reopen in our mobile version in November. It has taken a little longer than expected, but it is not gone and the process is just a little more than I could handle while also managing all the aspects of running the business as it exists. This is one of the reasons for the hiatus between the physical space and the new pop-up version of our programing to ensure I have time to work on and establish the status change.

So with this I say change is in the air, but we are not disappearing, stay with me as Created to Grow gets a little quieter in September and October and we’ll see you in November.

As I sign off today, I say thank you and as always (for now)

Lots of love and see you in the Studio,

Ariane

Art and Ice Cream Schedule Change

Our weekly Tuesday evening Art and Ice Cream Open Studio will be just a little earlier this week from 5-6:30 instead of 5:30-7:30 as we reach out to our neighbors in the Lowry Grove Neighborhood and provide a meal to support them as they prepare for this challenging week with the closing of the park. If you would like to know how to help this community in their move to their next chapter feel free to send me an email at createdtogrow@gmail.com and I will put you in contact with the volunteer coordinators.

We Whirled You SAVE!

Art-A-Whirl Special

It may have been a rainy Art-A-Whirl, but it was a wonderful weekend to make art together! Our community collaboratives bounced around NE and were full of enthusiastic artists and thankfully most of our stops were indoors this year. We also have a great Art-a-Whirl Weekend Special on our summer programs and, because our website was a little wonky this weekend, I’m extending it through WEDNESDAY! Sign up for any summer program and enter the code AAW2017 now through this Wednesday May 24th and get 20%off you summer registration. This code is stackable with our Take3 and Take5 codes if you are signing up for multiple camps.

Our 2017 tour!

NE Farmers’ Market

We kicked off our weekend at the rainy NE Farmers market where you can find us every other Saturday now through the end of August! Now that we got the rain out of the way for a season we’ll hope for sunny days to support our local growers, businesses and get crafty in the kids tent!

Hennepin County Library Installations

Then I headed out to complete our Community Hives at the NE and Pierre Bottineau Libraries! Check out these wonderful installations designed by our community!! They will be on display for the next three weeks and at Pierre Bottineau they have the supplies to make more bees so you can even add to the installation if you stop in when their wonderful children’s librarian is working!

Intertwine-A-Whirl

I’ve been lucky enough to have found this incredible group of individuals who meet at Eastside Neighborhood Services on a regular basis and was excited to join them in some really cool collaborative work. If you want to know more about Intertwine head on over to their website: https://intertwinene.org/

For Easter we built nests on the concept of Build, Grow, Fly:

and through Intertwine-A-Whirl we created the birds ready to fly away from them:

So that is the story of how we whirled and how you can SAVE!

Schedule Changes and Cancellations:

This week’s schedule is going to be a bit different as one of my children has a week of many appointments and a short inpatient hospital stay. All is well and we have lots of great help from family and friends at home, but our hours at the studio will be quite limited. Most regular series classes at the studio stand aside from Creative Kidlit on Tuesday afternoon which is cancelled. There will be no Tuesday drop in play, open studios or adult events in the studio or classes at the Farmhouse Market. Thanks for the well wishes from our regular clients who’ve shown support for us during this busy and challenging week. We’ll be back in full swing next week and I’d love to see you at the library events this weekend!

This week’s remaining schedule:

Artistic Adventures After School Class 3:45-6pm, Tuesday

First Art: 9:30-10:15, Wednesday and Thursday

Homeschool Arts Collective, 10:30-11:30 Thursday

Crafty Caregivers 10:15-12:00, Friday

See you in the studio,

Ariane
