We’re gearing up for a summer of fun with programs for everyone from preschool to Middle School and everything in between. Preschool programs are 2 day morning workshops for caregivers and children together with time for snacks, movement and play breaks built into the course time. There will also be an 8 week Creative Kidlit 1 hour weekly series class on Friday mornings for Pre-k/K students and their caregivers. Elementary and middle school workshops are ½ day drop off programs that run either morning or afternoon Monday through Thursday. Alternatively, there are a couple of programs that run either 2 or 3 days and are priced accordingly.

 Pre-k classes are caregiver/child classes so plan to stay and join in the fun.

The Science of Color: June 12-13th 9:30am-12pm Bring your little scientists to art class to learn how colors are made, make your own art materials and experiment with light! Oodles of creative experiments for our youngest explorers of colors with plenty of breaks for stories, songs, snacks* and playtime!

Dino Stomp and Fossil Dig: June 26-27th 9:30am-12pm Creative crafts for the miniature paleontologists in your family! This pre-k/caregiver mini-camp will explore dinosaurs through drawing, painting and sculpting along with plenty of breaks for stories, songs, snacks* and playtime!

Ooey Gooey Morning of  Fun: June 29th 9:30am-12pm If you have kiddos that love to really get their hands in their art this is the camp for you! Homemade art doughs and glittery slime, finger painting and painting with shaving cream, toothpaste and all kind of other silly things. Get messy together while you create masterpieces and, even better do it outside of your own kitchen where we clean up the mess! This class comes with plenty of breaks for stories, songs, snacks* and playtime!

Creature Adventures**: July 5-6th 9am-12pm From paw prints to creepy crawlies, flying critters and cuddly pets. We’ll explore creatures and their homes and create art that shares the lines, shapes and textures of the animal world. Created to grow preschoolers and their parents get to create art with a wide variety of medium and have plenty of time for breaks to play in our play space or exploring sensory stations.

A Bug’s Life: July 31st-August 1st: 9:30-12:pm Explore the creepy crawlies of the world with this caregiver/child 2 day workshop. From marching aunts to butterflies taking flight, we’ll create a wide range of fun projects from a bug’s eye view!

Garden Creations: Augst 2nd-3rd, 9:30-12pm Explore beautiful flower gardens and yummy edible ones though stories, songs and of course ART! From vegetable prints, to market bags, floral landscapes to pop up flower sculptures and maybe even a little exploration of the birds, bees and butterflies that make our gardens thrive, we’ll spend 2 mornings in this mini camp turning garden ideas into creative pieces with plenty of breaks for stories, songs, snacks* and playtime!

Art for Good: August 14-15th 9:30a-12pm A week full of up-cycled crafts for a good cause! We’ll spend some time learning about local non-profits doing good work in the twin cities and decide on who we want to make a donation to, create up-cycled arts and crafts and put them up for sale at a Silent Auction on Friday, March 4th with 100% of the sales of the pieces going to the organizations that the children have decided to support! We have 3 options for this camp a 2 day, pre-k care-giver/child workshop and 2 day elementary drop off session and a 4 day afternoon middle level program.

Elementary 4 day morning and afternoon camps

Nature’s Creative Collectors: June 19-22, 9am-12pm This is the perfect class for those children whose pockets ( and yours) are inevitably full of cool rocks and interesting leaves, a flower petal and an intriguing stick every time you take a walk. Create a nature sketchbook with collector pockets and use the nature you find in the art you create. These nature finds can inspire observational drawings, become a new style of paint brush, hang in a mobile or become a weaving loom. 4 days to collect and explore. Weather permitting, each morning will begin with a short neighborhood walk so be prepared with appropriate clothing and shoes.

Glitter and Glow: June 26-29, 1-4pm Have a child who oohs and ahhs when they spot those extra special art materials that are neon or shimmery, glittery or glowing! Here’s their chance to dig in to all those materials somewhere that doesn’t coat your house in a fine dusting of glitter! A full 4 days of projects made with medium that shimer and shine, glitter and glow!

Painterly**: July 5-6, 1-4pm Spend your afternoons exploring a variety of painting materials. We’ll spend our afternoons learning the techniques of a new paint mediums and create finished work that reflect the techniques we learned. We’ll use watercolors, watercolor pencils, tempera, oils and acrylics.

Inspired by the Masters: July 10-13th 9am-12pm A little art history to inspire your own creations! Each day we’ll find new artists to explore and make our own creations throughout the week as we study a new genres and create our own works of art based on the styles of art we learn about.

Drawing Plain and Simple: July 10-13th, 1-4pm Some of my students could just draw and draw from morning until night and this is their chance to learn new techniques to expand their drawing repertoire and others really wish they could “draw better” and this workshop is wonderful for that, too! In this 4 day session we’ll start by creating a sketchbook and begin each morning with drawing exercises that help us learn how to see in a way that grows our drawing ability and imagine in a way that builds our creative ideas and end each day creating a final work of art inspired by our initial exercises. Drawers of all levels welcome to come and take their next step!

Wizards and Spells: July 17-20th, 1-4pm Art is a great way to make magic and there’s so much creative literature that inspires young wizards to create a magical world of their own. Create your own wands, capes and horcrux stones, a messenger owl and more fun projects inspired by stories like Harry Potter by JK Rowling!

Out to Sea: July 24-27, 9am-12pm This workshop will explore the animals and plants of the underwater worlds and maybe a little bit of pirate fun through creative ocean themed projects!

The Softer Side of Art: June 24-27, 1-4pm Designs and techniques using textiles. Use yarn to create puffball pets, sew your own soft sculpture, learn batik techniques to create a wall hanging or garden flag and much more.

The Science of Color: August 7-10, 9am-12pm In this series we’ll go beyond the color wheel and see how colors are made through light and how they work together with our brain to affect our perception of things. The creative process and the scientific one go hand in hand and color is a perfect subject for seeing how they work together!

Mythological Creatures and the Tales they tell: Aug 7-10, 1-4pm The characters of mythology from a wide variety cultures are fascinating images for creation! Come learn their tales and create art that illustrates the creatures, their habitats and their mythical history.

Middle Level camps

Northeasters Inspire**: June 19-23rd, 1-4pm During this 5 day workshop, spend 2 days in the Created to Grow Studio and 2 in the studios of the Northeast Minneapolis Artists Association artists. Tour studios and discuss art processes and work on sketches on Monday and Wednesday and return to the Created to Grow Studios on Tuesday and Thursday to create art inspired by the works that we viewed and finish the week off with an art show to share the works we created with the artists who inspired us.

Masters of Media Technology: July 17-19th 9am-12pm Try your hand at using online tools and apps to create handrawn graphic designs, take and edit photographs and create animated shorts.

Printmaker’s Workshop**: July 31-Aug 3, 1-4pm Spend your afternoons exploring a variety of printmaking materials. Create prints that reflect your own interests in a wide range of styles from mono printed paintings to handmade stamps, silkscreens and block prints.
